Tips for Cleaning Your Paver Patio

As the weather warms up and you begin spending more and more time outdoors, you may have noticed that your paver patio has accumulated a little bit of dirt and grime on it. The spring is the perfect time to give it a good cleaning, but where do you start? If your paver patio needs cleaning, here are a few tips that will help you make it look great again.

Sweep off Debris

The first thing you want to do is sweep off any debris that’s on the paver patio. Leaves, yard clippings, and other random things are likely to have landed on the patio over the winter and during the early spring. Sweep them away with a broom or use a blower to get all of this gunk off. You may want to put on a pair of gloves and bag all this debris so you can fully remove it from the space.

Wash the Pavers with the Garden Hose

If your paver patio has a lot of dirt built up on it, you can take your garden hose and wash them off. If the pavers haven’t been cleaned in awhile, it’s possible you’ll have years of built-up dirt to get off. In this case, you may need to borrow or rent a power washer to get it all off. While this is a little more work, the end result is that the pavers will look great.

Remove Everything

If you have planters, patio furniture, and other items on your paver patio, be sure to take them off or at least move them and clean under them. It’s possible for damage to occur underneath pavers, but if you never move them, you may not know about it for quite some time.

Do Regular Cleaning

Instead of only cleaning your paver patio once or twice a year, make it a point to sweep and rinse it off regularly. This will help keep the stones looking great and prevent build up. It also helps you see damage to the pavers so you can replace them.
