What Are Interlocking Pavers?

Have you heard of interlocking pavers? This system of pavers has been around for decades and offer a number of benefits that concrete and standard bricks do not. Interlocking pavers are designed to fit together in such a way that they don’t require mortar or any other bonding material. This makes it very easy to install them. However, beyond easy installation, interlocking pavers also have several other benefits.

They’re Incredibly Strong

Interlocking pavers get their incredible strength through two different ways. The first is in how they are made. These pavers are created through a mixture of sand, cement, and gravel. A small amount of water is then added to the mixture before it is poured into a mold. The mold is then pressed and vibrated simultaneously, causing the mixture to set. Because the mixture has less water but more cement than other stones, it’s stronger.

The way the pavers are laid also provided more strength than normal. These pavers are placed in such a way that they act as a unified layer. The pressure put on one paver is actually transferred laterally to the other pavers around it. By sharing the load, each individual paver is under less pressure, so there’s less of a chance that it will crack or break.

They Can Be Used in Many Projects

Interlocking pavers can be used in any project where you might use concrete or bricks. This includes creating a patio, driveway, decking area, flowerbed, and many other applications. Interlocking pavers can be created in many different colors, too, and can be used to create a wide variety of designs.

There are some instances where interlocking pavers are a much better option than concrete or other types of pavers. When interlocked, the stones are unable to move on their own yet still retain more flexibility than concrete. If the ground beneath them shifts, they are able to shift with it. Concrete, on the other hand, would simply crack. Other types of pavers are also more likely to be damaged by shifting ground.
