FAQ – Pavers

WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO SEAL PAVERS?

Simply put, prevention is often better than the cure. Sealing pavers is optional but if people want their pavers to look newer for a longer period of time and make them easier to clean, then sealing is an excellent idea.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF A GOOD PROTECTOR FOR PAVERS?

Benefits of sealing pavers include: minimize maintenance, prevent stains from oil, food and drink spillages, BBQ grease, dirt, fallen leaves and pet messes (If pavers are sealed, stains will remain on the sealant and not penetrate into the paver pores), slow the growth of moss or mildew in damp areas, reduce the rate of color fade, inhibit weed infestation and keep your pavers looking new for longer period of time.

WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO CLEAN THE SURFACE BEFORE APPLYING A PROTECTOR?

Because Protectors need to penetrate concrete pores. Cleaners such as the Paver Primer, Efflorescence Cleaner and Hardscape Cleaner remove ground-in dirt and effloreresence, allowing protector to penetrate. Good penetration means better looking pavers and longer lasting effect.

WILL THE SURFACE GET SLIPPERY AFTER A PROTECTOR IS APPLIED?

Some Techniseal Protectors could make a surface a little more slippery than the bare material, specially when wet. If this a cause for concern, Techniseal recommends one of the two mat finish Protector, the Natural or the Color Boost Protector.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD I HAVE MY PAVERS SEALED?

Techniseal Protectors last approximately 3 years, depending on weather and traffic.

CAN I APPLY A PROTECTOR MYSELF?

For best results, Techniseal recommends that any Protector by applied by a professional contractor. Find a Techniseal Certified Applicator near you by clicking on the button LOCATOR above.

ARE WATER-BASED SEALANTS AS EFFECTIVE AS SOLVENT-BASED SEALANTS?

Yes. Techniseal water-based paver Protectors are made from the most advanced polymer technology available. Today, these sealants can even outperform solvent-based products by leaving thicker, more durable protective coating on the surface.

MY PAVERS WERE PREVIOUSLY TREATED WITH A SEALANT FROM ANOTHER BRAND. CAN I SEAL THEM WITH A TECHNISEAL PROTECTOR?

Yes. However, it will be necessary to wait until the sealant is worn before applying a Techniseal Protector. Normally,

I WILL CLEAN MY PAVERS WITH A WATER JET BEFORE SEALING THEM. IS THIS ENOUGH?

No. Always use a cleaner to clean pavers thoroughly. A simple water jet will not remove grease stains and will not dissolve efflorescence, a whitish salt that accumulates at the surface of pavers. It is highly recommended to always.

CAN I APPLY A PROTECTOR EVEN THOUGH THE SURFACE IS STILL HUMID?

No. It is important to wait until the pavers are dry before applying a Protector, even with a water-based ProtectoThe Protector could react with moisture and leave a white film on the surface.
